If so, you may qualify for FREE health insurance regardless of immigration status! If you’re over 50 and:
- Undocumented
- Are not already enrolled on Emergency Medi-Cal (you will automatically transition)
- Qualify for Medi-Cal based on CA residency and income
You Can Get:
Full Scope Medi-Cal provides free or low-cost health care. Starting May 1, 2022, it can provide you with coverage for things like:
- Outpatient (Ambulatory) services
- Emergency Services
- Hospitalization
- Mental Health
- Prescription Drugs
- Transportation
- Podiatry
- Physical therapy
- Laboratory services
- Prevention and wellness services and chronic disease management
- Dental Care

What health care can I get with Full Scope Medi-Cal?
Medi-Cal covers preventive health care and annual check ups. You can also get mental health care, substance use disorder services, prescription drugs and medical supplies, transportation, in-home personal assistance, dental and vision (eye) care, foot care, hearing aids, long-term care, and more!
What if I turn 50 after May 1st 2022?
If you turn 50 at any time in May 2022, your full-scope coverage will go back to May 1, 2022. If you turn 50 after May 2022, your full-scope coverage will begin on the first of the month in which you turn 50. For example, if you turn 50 anytime in August 2022, you will get full-scope Medi-Cal starting on August 1, 2022.
Will Medi-Cal impact my immigration status?
Medi-Cal enrollment will NOT count towards Public Charge or affect your future immigration efforts.
What if I already have emergency or other special Medi-Cal?
Individuals ages 50 or older on or after May 1, 2022 who are currently enrolled in Restricted-Scope Medi-Cal, such as Emergency Medi-Cal
What if I need help in a different language?
You have a right to free language assistance services, including interpreters.
Ask your county or Covered CA for help in your language.
Background
Health4All Older Adult Expansion will provide Full-Scope Medi-Cal to adults ages 50 and older regardless of immigration status.
An estimated 235,000 individuals could benefit state-wide.
Effective date: May 1, 2022, but older adults can enroll on Emergency Medi-Cal prior to May 1st and then automatically transition to Full-Scope Medi-Cal. There is no reason to delay meeting with a SRCH Access Navigator.
